So today–with a little help from our friends BWORK.in–we rolled out a pretty cool new feature on the city pages: local job listings.   Now when you browse your favorite city’s page (or pages) you will see the latest jobs postings from Twitter, Craigslist, Linkedin and more.  If you’d like to check it out below is an example link to one of the more notable cities in the US:

Also, don’t overlook the RSS icon on these pages.  You can actually subscribe to individual city job feeds and every time a new job is posted to that city you’ll be the first to know. Visit BWORK.in for even more features, like the ability to have saved job searches emailed directly to your inbox.  It’s a great way to passively search for jobs, even if you already have one.

Note, at this time this feature is only available for cities in the US.

At the heart of Cityocracy is the ability to buy cities.  You can buy the city our live in, the one next to you, or one halfway around the world.    Own one city or start building your global empire.   All cities, with the exception of those that are locked, cost just $5 to own.  Once you become the owner the city is yours and no one else can purchase it.  If at some point down the road you decide to sell or trade it that is up to you.

Once you own the city you have more control over it than anyone — and the amount of control is increasing every day.  For example, any registered user can leave a comment on your city, but as the owner you have the ability to delete said comments if you choose.  That’s just one very simple example.  Some of the things we’re working on exclusively for owners include: flag users, custom ad module where you get a cut of the $$$, customizable slogan, my contact info (mostly for businesses), more control over Hotspots, image gallery management, and much more.

As you can see there is a lot of value in owning a city.  We’re not just trying to sell your a city and walk away.  Actually it’s quite the opposite.   Our goal is to provide owners and everyday users with real value, which we think is already reflected by the quality of the site itself.
